06/05 @ Genoa /Italy - from Central station to House of Columbus

Central station in Genoa

On this day from Central station to House of Columbus ,
via Ferrari Piazza and Architecture college.
Unpacked at hostel, departed right soon after to wander around the city center.

San Vincenzo street.
local fashion, restaurants and etc are flourished here
one of the busiest streets in Genoa

Settembre st.
pathway towards Ferrari Piazza (square)

Most of streets have covered with building ceiling, extended further toward vehicle road.
Less natural light but shade functions cooling effect (lowering heat island effect),
also safe from raining so local businesses would not affected by weathers.
However I think of them high usage of electricity, shops' neons are bright
even during the day to attract shoppers under the shade.

Piazza De Ferrari

Teatro Carlo Felice

Palazzo Ducale, front

Palazzo Ducale, back view

Chiesa del Gesu e dei Santi Ambrogio e Andrea

It is really difficult to see modern structure generally in Genoa (or whole entire Italy)
which could sound like its economy is not doing well but
most buildings are preserved and avoided from the destruction during WW2
Vice versa in Germany

Architecture University in Genoa (Universita Degli Studi - Facolta Di Architrettura)

Roof garden of Architecture school

Pathway between entrance gate and the building entrance

some views of ports from the roof

I personally love how the stair is sealed? with glass roof.
It is safe from raining (or viewing water drops) and still receives sunlight.
Glass materials are just idealistic to me.

I liked this space.  Triangular shaped square is not obsessed with 'must useable',
good example of "the edge can be social space"

Ventilator design
non-usable space turned into some form of artwork

This staircase with terrace could have been good social space but now looked neglected.

Some elevators are installed on building facades
because the facades facing toward street, and not enough space for them.

Pedestrian streets in Genoa generally are very narrow
So they are in the shade most of times, and create gloomy atmosphere
but at the same time very quite, cozy and comfortable.
Just be cautious when you go through some slums

Porta Soprana

Some Greek style structure next to House of Columbus family
I regret that I did not have any shots of Colombus house.

This day was first day I had a sushi.
I was extremely hunger for it and spent almost 30 Euros.
